Hamza Mahmoud

Hamza is one of Team Sask’s talented goalies. After learning to play water polo in Egypt, Hamza continued his career with Water Polo Sask after moving to Canada. He quickly developed into one of the country's stars, earning himself a spot on the youth national team in the summer of 2022. Water polo has given Hamza the opportunity to travel all around the world, from across Canada playing with Water Polo Sask to international camps and tournaments in Europe. He credits the sport for teaching him his strong work ethic in and out of the pool, pushing him to achieve the highest level of water polo as well as academically. Once he graduates high school, he hopes to pursue a Sport Management Degree at the University of Regina and continue playing water polo. He notes his 17u Team Sask victory of their rivals in an exciting semi-final game as his favourite water polo memory, and when asked what his favourite thing about the sport is, he wrote, “My teammates… no matter what, we are always close. Never give up and keep on pushing yourself”. Hamza stays active in the water polo community in other ways, coaching young kids and refereeing whenever he can. He stands out not just a goalie but as a role model to the younger athletes coming up.

Mikayla Hack

Mikayla Hack, known fondly as “Mika” amongst her teammates and the club, is a long-time Water polo Sask athlete! Thanks to her older sister, a now WPS alumni, she joined the Estevan Sharks club when she was only eight years old. Now ten years later, she has an extremely accomplished water polo career, both with Team Saskatchewan and Team Canada. Since her early years, Mikayla has played all around Canada as well as Croatia with Team Sask and with the U19 national team in Indiana in July. Mika also competed internationally in tournaments held in Italy and Serbia this last summer. It was at World Championships that earned her proudest water polo moment: scoring the first goal for Team Canada at Worlds. While she studies at home in Regina, she trains with Team Sask and is striving to make the 20U World Championships team.

Mikayla stresses the importance of balancing school and sport, and that by learning to do so she made the most out of both of her commitments throughout high school. Mika also reminds us to have fun: “Water polo has taught me that if you keep trying you can reach your goals and not everything has to be about work. While it is important to take things seriously, you are allowed to have fun along the way”. Seeing Mika grow has been so exciting for the Water Polo Sask community, and we look forward to what is to come for her water polo and academic career.
