Posted on June 1st, 2018 at 12:08 pm, in Uncategorized

After a an accumulative 8 month long league season, Team Saskatchewan came to Montreal for the National Championship League Finals with some Big goals and dreams. Team Sask U19 mens and women’s squads qualified to this top tier Final five tournament in May and have been training long and hard for this weekend. These athletes train 7 times in the water a week with an additional 3 times in the gym. They have been pushing themselves and each other for this weekend.

The women’s squad was up first in a semi final game against the heavily favourite team from Montreal, CAMO. This opponent is the 3 time defending National Champion and have not lost a game at home in those 3 years. Tall task, so you call team Sask! In a very physical back and forth game with every goal resulting in an equalizer the other way. Despite the pressure and heavy home crowd support Team Sask came away with a 10-9 victory and ending the reign of the 3 time defending champions. Goal scorers were; Blaire McDowell, Breanna Dupperon, Carissa Semple, Jessica Dean, Paige Donald & Devyn Smith.

The mens squad also up in their semi final against the CAMO mens team. Again with a lot of home crowd support the men had a big job to complete in front of them. The game was fast, intense and very physical. The mens team couldn’t quite get the lead spent most of the game chasing CAMO, unfortunately the closes they would get is one goal behind, the game ending in a 13-11 win for CAMO sending the team Sask boys to the Bronze Medal game. Goal scorers were; Noah Katchuk, Bryden Goosen, Bruno Maurinca, Stephen Gloade & Jake Morris.

The men played early Saturday morning against a BC opponent from Fraser Valley region. This was another tight game with the boys racing against the clock. However with an incredible team effort the Team Sask mens acquired the Bronze medal to make sure they arrive home with their suitcases just a little heavier. Team sask beat Fraser Valley 12-9! The goal scorers were Callin Chimilar, Stephen Gloade, Jake Morris, Bryden Goosen, Bruno Maurinca, Josh Teichroeb, Noah Katchuk & Malachi Leclerc.

The Women played against Western rival from BC, Pacific Storm in the U19 Women’s Gold Medal match. An exciting match up was anticipated as both teams have had close games all season. Team Sask started the game down at the end of the first quarter 2-1, with great team play the ended the half leading 5-4, the girls then pushed some more to extend the 3rd quarter conclusion with a 5-8 lead. The 4th quarter was all Sask as the girls broke away to finish the game 13-7 and claim the title of U19 Women’s National Champions! The goal scorers were; Breanna Dupperon, Blaire McDowell, Devyn Smith, Paige Donald, Carissa Semple.

To conclude the season Sask was well represented in Individual awards for the end of the season play. In the Mens Category, Sask player Bryden Goosen wins Most Valuable Defensive player. In the women’s side both goalies for Sask share the most Valuable goalie awards, MVP was awarded to Sask Stand out Blaire McDowell and Most Valuable coach awarded to Ethan D’Souza
